Just floating this out there as it will be for sale very shortly:
Escort Mk4 Van with full ST170 conversion
This is a very clean van, that has led an honest life as a Gas fitter/installers van. It was off the road for a short while until 2018. It has never failed an MOT for rust!
Bodywork: the van is extremely original and had minimal work. It appears to have all original paintwork, and does have some very small marks here and there from being used as van. (Marks where a roof rack has been, and some small marks). There is 2 small dents by the OSR bumper, which are covered by the striped. But other than that, the van is excellent, the sides are brilliant!! All arches are rot free, and sills are original. The front end is immaculate, with solid inner wings & fuse tray. The battery tray has been done in the past (I’d redo this in the future). The front panel & crossmember is mint. The doors are mint too. It’s not been plastered in waxoyl, and you can see everything underneath. It’s very straight indeed, and large parts have been cleaned and painted white. It’s not concours or anything, but just a good solid floor. Rear doors are good, the left one though has a dent & rust bubble, but I will provide a mint rust free one too.
Striped are easily removed and only on the drivers side! I can provide more if you wanted to do the passenger side. (Or you just peel them off).
Interior: inside is in the process of being carpeted in the rear. The front is all just usual Escort, but has been fully cleaned, and some nice RS Turbo Recaros have been added for comfort. Door cards are from an LX model Escort.
Wheels: brand new Peugeot 3008 steels and brand new tyres. These have done zero miles.
Suspension: flipped & restored axle, with Mk2 Escort spring seats, that have been modified to make the wheels sit central in the arch (most modified vans have wheels that don’t sit central). Brand new front arms with new bushes. New wheel bearings.
Brakes: standard RST rear drums with new cylinders, 300mm ST / Mondeo front brakes with new discs & pads.
Exhaust: stainless from downpipe back, with Corsa VXR rear box. (I wanted a discreet system, I hate vans with a droopy exhaust hanging down). It is a little loud, but does sound good in my opinion. Semi wrapped.
Engine: full ST170 engine, that had pretty much the same mileage as the van does (88k). Runs absolutely lovely with ZERO smoke. Full Focus engine loom, thinned down to remove unnecessary wires, and re wrapped. OBD port placed in glovebox so full diagnostics can be done. ECU & all relays are under the glovebox, so protected from the elements. FOcus fuel relay used and located behind passenger seat. Brand new 044 style pump & Sytec fuel filter added. Diesel fuel tank used (because it has a swirl pot). Everything works correctly, starts on the key perfectly and idles at 850rpm when warm. Gauges all work, fans all work correctly. (I hate conversions with extra switches and stuff that doesn’t work).
Gearbox : 5spd XR3i box with low mileage linkage. Mk6 Escort clutch & flywheel (nice and cheap to change!).
I have added many nice touches too like Fiesta Mk7 fuse relay, Transit Connect starter, all power wires renewed.
So many parts have been changed, I honestly can’t remember them all.
The van is 95% complete, and starts, drives etc. All ready for it’s MOT which should be done shortly.
It’s a good honest van. To be truly mint, it would benefit from a quick blow over, but I have machine polished it and it’s come up very well. (I personally would leave it as it is, it’s still a super clean Mk4 van).
I’m floating this out there now, and hoping to get around £6k. I applied for the logbook 4 months ago and have still yet to receive it, so please bare in mind that it could be lost and need reapplying for. (It’s had 2 previous owners). I can provide names of who I brought it off to verify the van is genuine.
I am willing to listen to a serious offer as she stands. (Has some tiny tiny jobs left which I can run through with a potential buyer). PM me and we can have a proper conversation.
