The LEZ is enforced by automatic recognition of your number plate. Signs on the road mark entry points from where you must be exempt or pay the fee.
At the moment, only larger vehicles are charged: pre October 2006 lorries over 3.5 tonnes, coaches over 5 tonnes, large vans and large motorhomes.
Any 4×4 or pick up that was registered before 1/1/2002 will also have to pay. There is a guide on the Transport for London website that can calculate your charge.
On an ongoing basis, the Euro Emissions rating required for exemption is reviewed and has been updated to Euro6 from 2017.
